Family Nature Club – April 19, Fire Company Nature Center, 1 pm – 2 pm: What’s Wild? How do you know? What are some wild animals we might see often? Join Ashland County Parks’ volunteers Kolleen Crall and Louise Fleming-Dufala for Family Nature Club, April 19, from 1-2 at the Fire Company Nature Center. Participants will make a puppet show, read the story of a dog or a squirrel, and discuss whose life is harder and why. We will go for a walk to see if squirrels live at the nature center. Boots for mud are recommended.

Mohican Wildlife Weekend, April 26: Join Ashland County Park District volunteers at Cooke Family Wildlife Conservation Park, April 26, as part of Mohican Wildlife Weekend. The theme this year is “Outdoors 101.” Activities include children’s crafts, Native American artifacts, and animal pelt to touch. Programs are scheduled as follows:

  • 10 – Bird walk with Tim Leslie
  • 11, 11:30, and 12 – Introduction to archery. Hands-on instruction for people ages 9 and older. Equipment is provided.
  • 11:30 – Building and starting a fire. Sam Weyrick will teach how to build a fire and start it using flint and steel.
  • 12:15 – Introduction to geocaching
  • 1:00 – Nature walk with Tim Leslie

Mohican Wildlife Weekend will kick off Friday, April 25. The event will take place at the Pleasant Hill Lake Park Activity Center, with keynote speaker, Chip Gross, wildlife photographer. The kick-off begins at 6:00pm, with the keynote speech beginning at 7:00pm.

Walk in the Park, June 14, Freer Field, 2-5pm: Join Dick Goddard and the Friends of Ashland County Park District at our 2nd annual event to benefit local animal shelters, No Pawz Left Behind and Ashland County Sheriff’s K9 unit. Bring a donation and enjoy meeting Dick Goddard, K9 demonstrations, meet the breeds, vendors, & more. Walk the trails at Freer Field, meet at SW corner off of Park Street.
